Saykiko translates conversations live, with everyone on their own phone. To do that, what you say has to leave your phone for a moment. This page explains where it goes, how long it stays, and what you can do about it. Saykiko is made by Katgames OÜ, a company registered in Estonia (“we”). You can reach us at hello@saykiko.com.
The short version
- There are no accounts. We don't ask for your email, phone number or Apple ID.
- We don't record or keep your voice. It is turned into text as you speak.
- A conversation's messages are deleted 30 minutes after the last person leaves, unless the host chooses to keep it (then 90 days after the last visit).
- No ads, no selling of data, no tracking across other apps or websites, and your conversations are not used to train AI models.
What we handle, and why
What you say
Your voice. When you hold or tap the microphone, the sound is streamed from your phone to Soniox, our speech-to-text provider, which turns it into text. If streaming isn't available, the iPhone app uses Apple's speech recognition (on the phone itself when the phone supports it), and the web version uses your browser's own speech recognition, which may send the sound to your browser's maker (for example Google for Chrome, Apple for Safari). We don't store recordings.
The text. What you say or type goes to our server and to Anthropic (Claude), which translates it, fixes words the phone misheard, and, when someone asks, explains a line or writes a recap. If Claude is unavailable, Cloudflare Workers AI translates it instead. To get the translation right, these also receive the previous few lines, the names and languages of the people in the conversation, the “who's who” labels and tone you choose, and any words you add to help recognition.
How long a conversation is kept
- Messages stay on our server while the conversation is going, so someone who reconnects sees what was said. They are deleted 30 minutes after the last person leaves.
- An invite link works for 24 hours (a personal link, 30 days after it was last used). With it we keep the host's name and language, so the link can say who is inviting.
- If the host turns on “Keep this conversation”, its messages, word list and who's who are kept for 90 days after the last visit, so the family can reopen it. Everyone in the conversation is told. The host can turn it off at any time, which deletes it for everyone.
Your name
The name you enter is shown to the others in the conversation and appears on recaps. You can leave it empty.
A random phone ID
The app makes up a random ID for your phone. It is not linked to your name, number or Apple ID. We use it to recognize your phone when you come back to a kept conversation, to give each phone one free first evening, to apply a gift someone gave your phone, and to count, as numbers only, how many guests later start a conversation of their own. On iPhone it is kept in the Keychain, so it survives reinstalling the app.
Purchases and gifts
Passes and the Together subscription are paid through Apple. We never see your payment details. The app sends us Apple's signed record of the purchase (which product, its dates and its transaction number) so your conversations get their plan, and Apple tells our server about refunds. For a gift, we keep the gift link, the giver's name as they typed it, the language they chose, and which phones accepted it.
The recap card
The card at the end of a conversation is made on your phone. It goes nowhere unless you share it, and then only where you choose.
Counts
We count a few steps each week, such as how many cards were shared or how many gift links were opened. These counts carry no ID.
On your phone
Your name, language, settings, word list, the list of kept conversations and the free voice minutes used today are stored on your phone (in the app, or in your browser's storage). Deleting the app or clearing the site's data removes them.
Technical data
Cloudflare, which runs our servers, handles technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the service and protect it from abuse. Our own error logs record which step failed, not what was said.
Who processes it
- Cloudflare: hosting, storage of conversations, and the backup translation (Workers AI).
- Anthropic: translation, repairs, explanations and recaps (Claude). Under its terms for business customers, Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.
- Soniox: speech-to-text.
- Apple: payments, and speech recognition on iPhone when streaming isn't available.
They process data only to provide their service to us, under their own data-protection terms, and may do so outside your country, including in the United States.
What we never do
We don't show ads, sell or rent data, build profiles, track you across other apps or websites, or use your conversations to train AI models.
Legal basis
We process this data to provide the service you ask for (translating your conversation), and, for the counts and for security, because we have a legitimate interest in knowing whether Saykiko works and keeping it safe.
Your choices and rights
- Leave the conversation, and its messages are gone 30 minutes after everyone has left. A host can stop keeping a conversation at any time.
- Delete the app, or clear the site's data in your browser, to remove what is stored on your phone.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete data about you. Because there are no accounts, tell us the conversation code (or gift link) it concerns. Write to hello@saykiko.com.
- If you are in the EU, you can also complain to the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon) or the authority in your country.
Children
Saykiko is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data about them. A child can take part in a family conversation that an adult hosts.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For a change that matters, we'll also say so in the app.
